Making Sustainable Changes
Wait how is it already mid-March?!
Back in January, I had dozens of conversations with folks in my life, all centered around making BIG changes and seeing 2023 as the year to really put things in motion. Over the course of my life, I have learned to honor the natural patterns, rhythms, and cycles of life. More than anything… tuning into one of my spirit guides: Earth. Earth is one of my many teachers. The soil, the dirt, the intricate root systems, the natural process of death and rebirth, and the feeling of grass between my toes… there is an ineffable connection to it all. Earths seasons, if we really pay attention, teach us so much. Honoring cycles and seasons, we know, the dead of winter is not the time to attempt to till and turn the soil, sow seeds, nurse, and water them to bloom. New years resolutions, i’m looking at you! The perfect time? Spring. As we usher into Spring 2023, now is the time, the moment, the open door you’ve been waiting for to make sustainable movement to the things your heart has been in pursuit of. Now is the time to make therapy happen, to find a supportive container to unfurl and blossom, to weed and uproot patterns that no longer serve you. Now is the time!
Maybe you are considering working with me. Let me give you an open window into the fundamental truths of the ways I practice!
I believe that all you need to heal, is already buried deep within you.
Inner work and healing takes time, intentionality, and a deep desire for self.
There is so much insight involved in unraveling the tightly wound ball of patterns, cycles, childhood experiences, family, relationships, traditions, etc and I trust that you are fully capable, equipped, and crafted to be the person you want to be. Because of this—I don’t come to session with a list off all the ways you need to change or all the ways I think you are wrong, or broken.
As a clinician, I show up to session believing in your capacity, your strength, your intuition, and your determination to confront the distress, pain, anger, hurt, sadness you may be facing. I am trained to walk alongside you, to help strengthen you with tools to withstand life’s many journey’s, to get messy along the way, to point things out, to ponder the beauty, and to support you in every way possible. I never show up to session with a clipboard of notes entitled “needs to change x..” thats not my role.
I deeply believe that you are the expert to the who’s and how’s that make you, you—and I will never not be curious and fascinated to learn more, push, or challenge you to cultivate the growth you desire!
I practice primarily from a jungian, psychodynamic, black feminist—narrative framework. Beyond the clinical jargon what does this all mean? I fundamentally believe in the beautifully complicated nuances of childhood. Our childhood homes are the very universes that shape who we are, knit together our one-of-a-kind nervous systems, and crystalize essential neural pathways—it all really matters. I am fascinated with digging up + tracing the root systems of the beliefs, reactions, narratives, and self- definitions we hold close. I equip clients with unquenchable wonder and a deeply grounded understanding of who they are, where they have been, and how to get to where their hearts yet yearn to be. Practicing therapy is beyond an honor day in and day out. It is truly “holy work.”
